Once one gets going, freelancing can be a very profitable and successful career choice. It can make you just as much of a yearly income as a payroll job, if not more. Yet, while some freelancers flop, others practically live in poverty. It seems only the few ‘luckiest’ of freelancers actually make it to true, stable success.

The fact that luck is involved is pure bull. Anyone can be a successful self-employed individual when they set their mind to it. Yet, that seems to be the biggest problem: how many freelancers consistently do set their mind to it? How many actually try and work hard to succeed? In this post we’re going to discuss how one can finally take freelancing more seriously, and get the motivation they need to succeed.

It has long been a dream of mine to start a web design and development firm, bigger than my own two little freelancing hands. Finally, I have the resources and funds available to do so, and have decided to track my progress month-by-month right here on The Free Creatives.

For anyone with similar dreams or aspirations, hopefully this series can be of inspiration. Note that posting here on TFC might take a downfall in frequency as I’ll be working hard on setting up and maintaining my new found web presence over at the XHTML Shop. However, in a few months it will hopefully be back to normal.

Many freelancers start out in the first few months by either losing money or just barely making enough to cover living expenses. This is often why many end up hating the lifestyle, and run back to the cubicle. For others, it’s the one reason why they don’t enter the freelancing world in the first place.

However, freelancing is a business like any other. Like a traditional business owner, we deserve to work hard and reap the awards later. We deserve unlimited potential, and the ability to live comfortably like the owner of a salon, mom & pop shop, or even a corporation. We deserve a profit for us and our businesses.

In this post we’re going to look into how to break away from the barely-making-it frame of mind, and step into how to achieve a deserving profit for your business, not to mention put some extra cash in your pocket for leisure.

Check out the great coloring, depth, and even ideas used to create these beautiful pieces of art. Some are abstract, and some are more concrete. Having a bit of debt as a freelancer can be troubling, stuck in a career where we never get a set paycheck. It can be difficult to plan ahead to beat the debt, and work your way out. With such an unpredictable lifestyle, how can one create a plan that will solve their financial problems forever?

In this post, we’ll talk about how to tackle debt while still maintaining a fulfilling freelance business. Keep in mind that this post will not help those in serious debt, but instead those that would be able to solve their debt problems with a few extra hundred a month.
